"Bringing a brighter future to the needy children of Nepal"

SCAI is a young and dynamic charity, established in Australia in July 2005 by three local women with a mission to provide a brighter future to impoverished children and youth in Nepal. It now cares for over seventy children at Sunrise Orphanage in Nepal, who may have otherwise faced a bleak future of starvation, poverty, slavery, trafficking, being forced into armed conflict, or simply end up on the streets of the increasingly crowded Kathmandu. Whilst providing basic care such as food, education, medical care and clothing, SCAI are committed to developing the skills of the staff and children of Sunrise Orphanage and the local community in which they live to empower them to become employable and self-sufficient in the long term. SCAI are working in partnership with various local organisations in Nepal on various training, development and income generating programs to achieve this.
Buying land and building "Sunrise Children’s Village" in Kathmandu is the next major step towards establishing self-sufficiency and sustainability, and proceeds from our major fundraising events will go towards this project.
As well as Sunrise Orphanage, SCAI with its local partners runs 3 Community Education Scholarship Programs and 2 Community Training and Development Centres in Nepal.
SCAI is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation. It does not receive any government funding, and as such depends entirely on the generous donations of businesses and individuals. SCAI continually strives to keep administration costs in Australia and Nepal to an absolute minimum, with all work in Australia being done by volunteers.
SCAI is a community based organisation accountable to its members and supporters and is governed by its rules, which are available on request. SCAI is committed to working in equal partnership with its overseas beneficiaries in an open, honest and fully transparent manner.
SCAI has been working in partnership with Sunrise Orphanage Nepal since July 2005. In 2008 SCAI was approved and registered as an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO) in Nepal, one of only 4 Australian charities to do so.
SCAI and its partners fully support the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
